From founding to transition
Founded by the Eudists in September 1937 at Cardinal Villeneuve’s request, the Externat began in a private home before moving into a permanent building. Affiliated with Université Laval, it offered the classical curriculum. The creation of CEGEPs transformed education, and the buildings were sold to Cégep de Limoilou in 1968. A lay corporation received the charter and opened a private secondary school in 1970.
