Formation of
diocesan priests
Renewing the joy of living the Eudist charism through formation.
A shared mission
Supporting and renewing
our charism of formation
We had been waiting for this since 2017! The General Assembly asked the General Administration to prepare several directories for the whole Congregation: on formation, economic affairs, associates, and spirituality, as well as a directory for seminaries. An interprovincial team was formed to prepare the latter and soon broadened its scope to our role in the initial and ongoing formation of diocesan priests. The text is ready and will be circulated throughout the Congregation.
The overall aim is to support and renew our mission through the Eudist charism of formation, with a particular focus on priests. Every Eudist community and mission can contribute to the formation of diocesan priests. The directory is addressed to all members of the Congregation, who are called to put into practice the charism received from Saint John Eudes.
We want to renew the joy of living our Eudist charism in the service of priestly formation.

A directory for living
the twofold Eudist charism
December 8, 2016 is as significant for the Eudists as the dates associated with PO, OT, and PDV. The first is the adoption of Presbyterorum ordinis , the Second Vatican Council’s decree on the ministry and life of priests. Most Eudists are priests. The second date is the adoption of Optatam totius Ecclesiae renovationem, the same Council’s decree on priestly formation. Many confrères are involved in forming future ordained ministers. The third milestone is the publication of the post-synodal apostolic exhortation Pastores dabo vobis, by Pope John Paul II, several chapters of which prompted a major revision of priestly formation. This brings us to December 8, 2016. In this tradition came the promulgation of the new ratio fundamentalis institutionis for priestly formation, the RFIS, also known as the DVP from its revealing subtitle, “The Gift of the Priestly Vocation.” The whole Eudist family is concerned, since this touches one part of our twofold charism.
